Ismail Haneya, the deposed prime minister of the Islamic Hamas movement's government in the Gaza Strip said on Wednesday that the direct Israeli-Palestinian peace talks are happening under duress, Xinhua reported.
"Hamas movement is an important part of the Palestinian people and sees the direct negotiations that will be launched at the White House are taking place without a Palestinian cover," Haneya said before a group of Gaza society notables.
The direct peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) are scheduled to be officially launched in an ceremony in Washington on Thursday.
"These talks are going to take place between the two sides under pressure and duress. The talks are happening according to an American warrant sent to the Palestinians to come to Washington for the direct talks," said Haneya.
Haneya said that his movement opposes any direct or indirect peace negotiations with Israel, and the direct peace negotiations will fail "because it is based on unfair conditions."
He expressed his movement's rejection to the negotiations with Israel, saying "Hamas doesn't want to be deceived by the same parties," in reference to the United States.
The upcoming direct Israeli-Palestinian peace talks will be the first of its kind since the talks had stopped between the two sides in December 2008. However, the four-mount proximity indirect talks sponsored by the United States, which kicked off on May 9 had failed to make any achievement.
