Israeli F16 warplanes struck smuggling tunnels Saturday night at the border between the southern Gaza Strip and Israel, wounding four people, medical sources said, dpa reported.
Witnesses said that the F16 warplanes carried out three successive strikes on separate tunnels in southern Gaza Strip.
The medical sources said that paramedics found one person wounded in one of the targeted tunnels, while paramedics were still working to extricate three other local workers who were wounded and still trapped in the tunnel.
The Israeli airstrikes were carried out in retaliation for an earlier attack by Gaza militants who fired a homemade rocket at southern Israel.
Earlier Saturday, the pro-Hamas Popular Resistance Committees claimed responsibility for the homemade rocket attack from Gaza on southern Israel. The rocket caused no injuries or damage, according to Israeli radio.
