Israel said on Sunday it respected the victory of the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohammed Morsi in Egypt's presidential vote, adding that it wanted to cooperate with any new administration based on the pioneering peace treaty between the two countries, DPa reported.
"Israel appreciates the democratic process in Egypt and respects the results of the presidential elections," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement.
"Israel looks forward to continuing cooperation with the Egyptian government on the basis of the peace treaty between the two countries, which is a joint interest of both peoples and contributes to regional stability," the statement said.
