UN denies drone shot down in Israel came from Lebanon

The UN force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) late Monday denied that a drone shot down in Israel at the weekend had come from Lebanon, DPA reported.

In an interview with the "Voice of Lebanon" radio station, Andrea Tenenti, a spokesman for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, said the UN peacekeeping force had not spotted any drone flying from Lebanon into Israeli airspace.

Israeli parliamentarian Miri Regev, a former military spokeswoman, had earlier written on Twitter that it was an "Iranian drone launched by (Lebanon-based) Hezbollah."

The Israeli military has not commented on the origins of the drone, shot down in the south of Israel on Saturday.

During the Israeli war on Lebanon in July 2006, the Israeli military shot down an unarmed drone operated by Hezbollah over Israel's territorial waters.

Iran said earlier Monday that the incident exposed the weakness of the Israeli military.
