Lapid: willing to join broad coalition

Yair Lapid, the leader of the Israeli centrist Yesh Atid party, said early Wednesday he was willing to join a broad coalition headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, dpa reported.

"I feel the burden of the responsibility," he told his packed and ecstatic party headquarters in central Tel Aviv, after exit polls indicated he won some 19 mandates, many more than expected.

Israel's citizens "said no" to fear, extremism and anti-democracy, he said.

The "as broad as possible" government should include "the moderate forces" from the left and the right "so that we can truly bring about real change."
