Palestinians welcome Amnesty International report on water

Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) Tuesday welcomed a report by Amnesty International which accused Israel of denying Palestinians adequate quantity of water, Xinhua reported.
  
The report by the London-based human rights group said Israel uses four times as much water as the Palestinians and Israel gets most of these water from an aquifer located in the occupied West Bank.
 
The report also said the Israeli procedures left the Palestinian water supply far below the minimum level recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), while "the illegal Israeli settlements (in the West Bank) receive unlimited water."
  
PWA director Shadad al-Otaili said the report "indicates an increase in international awareness of Israel's illegal and unjust policies in the Palestinian territories."
  
The problem of water is "the main axis in the Palestinian- Israeli conflict since Israel denies the Palestinians safe and clean water. "This is racial discrimination and a flagrant violation of international law," Otaili said.
  
Meanwhile, he pointed out that Israel had rejected Palestinian proposals to share the water fairly by both sides "and insisted to loot the water."
  
However, spokesman for the Israeli government Mark Regev denied the accusations. He said his country has sophisticated techniques for water desalination.
