Hamas asks Egypt for clarifications about steel underground wall

The deposed government of Hamas asked Egypt on Saturday to make clarifications about the steel underground wall reportedly being extended at borders with Gaza, Xinhua reported.
In a statement posted to media, Hamas' Minister of Interior Fathi Hammad said he asked the Egyptian government to brief the Islamic movement on development on the Egyptian side bordering Gaza following reports over an intensified security existence and plans to extend steel underground wall along the border line.
"Minister Hammad asked the Egyptian side some clarifications about the reports saying that Egypt is building up an underground steal fence under the borderline area between Gaza Strip and Egypt, " the statement said.
Meanwhile, Hammad said he briefed senior Egyptian security officials about security measures adopted by the movement at borders and made reassurances over security situation there.
"Minister Hammad reiterated to the Egyptian side that his government is concerned about the Egyptian security... the security of Egypt is consequently a security for the Palestinians. "
Hammad told the Egyptians that his ministry sent security forces to border areas "to prevent some residents from opening fire at the Egyptian-Palestinian border area."
The Hamas' minister also asked the Egyptian side to take measures to ease the suffering of Gaza residents caused by over three-year Israeli blockade.
