Dubai police suspect a third Palestinian of being involved in the January murder of a leading Hamas militant in the emirate, al-Ittihad newspaper reported Thursday.
"The number of Palestinians being questioned in connection with the murder of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh has risen to three," the newspaper quoted an anonymous, "senior" police official as saying, DPA reported.
Police had previously identified two Palestinians as being suspected in the murder. The men were arrested in Jordan and deported to Dubai.
Al-Ittihad's source told the paper that of the two, the involvement of one in the January 20 murder of al-Mabhouh in his Dubai hotel room had been "proven."
The identity of the third Palestinian was not known, al-Ittihad said. The total number of suspects in the case has now reached 26.
"We will announce everything in time," the police officer told the paper, adding that he believed no new suspects would be added in the investigation into the murder of al-Mabhouh, a founder of Hamas' armed wing.
