Turkish PM surrenders to terrorism: opposition

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has surrendered to terrorism, Turkish opposition National Movement Party (NMP) leader Devlet Bahceli said at a party meeting .

"Erdogan has yielded to terrorism," Bahceli was quoted as saying by CNN Turk.

At the meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Erdogan said the AKP will resolve the Kurdish problem in the country. Earlier, the PM met with Kurd Democratic Society Party (DTP) leader Ahmet Türk. The head of state said the meeting was positive and the Kurdish problem will enter an active phase of resolution in the near future.

According to the DTP leader, the meeting initiated a dialogue between the parties.

Turkey's key opposition leader Deniz Baykal also said the authorities are negotiating with individuals who promote terrorism in the region. On Aug. 13, Turkish Interior Minister Bashir Atalay also met with Turk.

JDP and the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) are of similar minds, Bahceli said at a news conference earlier.

"It is impossible to win terrorism without combating it," Baykal said at the conference.

Thirty-six PKK terrorists left the Mahmur terrorist camp in northern Iraq upon the request of the imprisoned PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Ocalan. The terrorists surrendered to the police. The government expected around 150 PKK members to surrender to Turkish security forces, Atalay said. The terrorists walked across the Iraqi-Turkish Habur border gate, where they were met with PKK flags. The Turkish opposition protested the move. The terrorists were released after interrogation.

The PKK terrorists from Mahmur should not be met graciously, Turkish armed forces head Ilker Bashbug said.

The Turkish parliament began discussing plans for a democratic solution to the Kurdish problem.

Tensions appeared during discussions at parliament. Some MPs from the opposition left the hall.

Bahceli said a democratic resolution to the Kurdish problem is nothing more than fulfilling PKK's demands.

"Erdogan supports the terrorists," he added.
