Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had a meeting with the newly elected president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlut Cavusoglu in Strasbourg on Friday, Anadolu Agency reported.
Davutoglu proceed to Strasbourg to meet with Cavusoglu from British capital of London where he attended an international conference on Afghanistan.
Davutoglu wished success to PACE President Cavusoglu and said for the first time in the history of the Council of Europe, a Turkish parliamentarian has been elected the president of the PACE.
Deputy of the Justice and Development (AK) Party from southern province of Antalya, Cavusoglu, replaced Spanish parliamentarian Luis Maria de Puig as the president of the PACE for two years.
Cavusoglu has been a member of the PACE for the past two terms and is known for his active contributions to various committees.
Turkey will assume the term presidency of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers for a period of six months as of November 2010.
