Turkish anti-narcotic teams seized 12.2 tons of heroin, 25.8 tons of hashish and 391,770 ecstasy pills in operations throughout the country in 2009, the semi- official Anatolia news agency reported Thursday.
Altogether 14,675 anti-drug operations were waged in 2009 and 31,524 suspects were taken into custody and sent to court in connection with the cases, the agency cited data compiled from the police department as saying, Xinhua reported.
On Thursday, Turkish police confiscated 102.7 kg of heroin in the southern province of Adana and detained three people, the agency said in a separate report.
Turkey is a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in western Europe.
