Turkey's Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday that Turkey had been exerting efforts to facilitate talks on Iran's nuclear programme, in order to prevent it from turning into a greater issue, Anadolu Agency reported.
In response to a question at a joint press conference with Qatari Premier and Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jasim bin Jabir al-Thani, Erdogan said Turkey wanted nuclear capabilities to be used for peaceful purposes only, making it clear that Turkey was against nuclear weapons in its region.
Referring to remarks by the Former International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) President Mohamed Mostafa ElBaradei, proposing Turkey as a venue for exchange of nuclear fuel with the uranium possessed by Iran, Erdogan said Turkey was ready to accept the task, should parties reach an agreement.
Erdogan said that Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu would pay a visit to Iran tomorrow, vowing to continue extending support to the talks.
Responding to a question on Egyptian position on entrance of international aid to Gaza, Erdogan pointed out that one of the four gates into Gaza was located in the Egyptian border. He said despite this fact equipment and material for reconstruction was still not allowed into Gaza.
He urged United Nations to warn Israel calling on Egypt to change its attitude so that reconstruction of Gaza could begin.
Erdogan said Turkey would stand by its word and was ready to contribute to reconstruction of Gaza, calling on all countries which committed to contribute in the donor conference in Sharm El Seikh, to honour their words.
