Turkish plane makes emergency landing

A Turkish Airlines (THY) passenger plane has made an emergency landing at Ataturk International Airport in Turkey's capital, Istanbul, after it suffered a bird hit, Press TV reported.

An Antalya-bound THY flight with 116 passengers on board had a close shave on Sunday when it hit a flock of birds a few minutes into the flight. A bird flew into one of the plane's engines and grounded the Airbus A320 plane, CNN Turk reported.

According to an airport representative, the medium-range passenger jet took off from the airport at about 15:25 p.m. local time (1325 GMT) and hit the bird soon after departure. The pilot radioed that he would make an emergency landing and brought the aircraft back to the runway.

Airport engineers found a technical snag in the plane after which the flight was cancelled. Technicians were called to examine whether the flight could resume.

The stranded passengers of the Turkish Airlines plane were flown to their destination by another airliner, sources said.
