Iran's Energy Minister Majid Namjou said Saturday that Tehran and Ankara are working out a roadmap to illuminate the proper path for the two sides' future cooperation in the energy sector.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with visiting Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz here in Tehran today, Namjou said, "A comprehensive roadmap will be drawn for the two countries' cooperation in the energy sector which will be the pillar for Iran-Turkey cooperation in future."
Namjou also said that the plan is currently being drafted by Iranian experts and specialists of the Turkish Energy Ministry here in Tehran.
"Given the talks between the Turkish Energy Minister and our country's Oil Minister, an agreement has been made by the two sides to set up a committee to follow up on the move and to hold sessions every few months to assess progress in attaining agreements," he added.
"Fortunately, Iran and Turkey have at present good relations in energy transfer and also export of Iran's electricity to Turkey, but this must be developed more than before," Namjou said, adding that Tehran and Ankara have held an agreement to supply 6,000MW of power to Turkey.
To conclude his remarks, the Iranian minister said Turkey enjoys good potentials and possibilities for energy ties with Iran, and Tehran welcomes further expansion of cooperation with Ankara.
Iran and Turkey enjoy strategic relations in a wide variety of areas.
Iran is the second gas supplier to Turkey, after Russia, exporting between 15 and 18 million cubic meters of gas daily through the conduit, which runs from the Northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz to Ankara.
Tehran and Ankara agreed in May to increase gas exports to Turkey to 23 mcm per day, FNA reported.
