Azerbaijan, Baku, March 30 /Trend/

News reports say police are searching the homes and offices of at least five Turkish theology professors as part of a probe into the 2007 killing of three Christians, including a German national, The Associated Press writes.

The Dogan news agency and other media said Wednesday police are investigating whether the killings are part of a wider alleged hardline secularist conspiracy to topple the Islamic-rooted government by creating chaos and destabilizing the country.

The homes and offices were being searched for possible links to the killings, or to the alleged conspiracy.

One of the academics, Abdurrahman Kucuk, told reporters he has researched Christian missionaries in Turkey, but denied any ties to the murders.

Hundreds of people are already on trial for allegedly attempting to overthrow the government.
