Turkish boxing official Garip Erkuyumcu died in the Olympic village on the eve of Friday's opening ceremony of the London Games, the International Olympic Committee confirmed.
Erkuyumcu, 73, appeared to have died from natural causes, IOC spokeswoman Emmanuelle Moreau told dpa.
"It is very sad," she said. "We were informed yesterday. We have very little information."
Erkuyumcu was reportedly found by another delegation member in his room on Thursday. He was in London as a member of the referee commission of the international amateur boxing body AIBA.
