Servet Tazegul of Turkey has won the Olympic taekwondo gold medal in the men's 68-kilogram division, Huriyyet reported.
The 23-year-old Tazegul defeated Mohammad Bagheri Motamed of Iran by a score of 6 to 5 in a closely fought final where he was often in attack mode, throwing several combinations of spinning or jumping kicks.
But despite the acrobatics, Tazegul rarely scored - unlike the rest of his fights Thursday. It was a subdued final after a day of forcing his opponents to adapt to his high-paced fight style where none were able to match the fluidity of his kicks.
The bronze medals were won by Terrence Jennings of the US and Rohullah Nikpai of Afghanistan, who won his country's first-ever Olympic medal at the Beijing Games.
