The Turkish parliament's justice committee has opened a debate on a draft law concerning the Internet media, Anadolu Agency reported.
The draft proposes broadening the existing media law to include web-based news outlets.
It regulates publication of denials and refutations, requiring them to be published for a week on a given website in response to claims of libel or disinformation.
It also allows for official announcements and advertising to be published online.
Public announcements are a key instrument in supporting the local media and are paid by public institutions. Now this tool will be enjoyed by the websites if the draft is passed.
