Members of Armenia’s new parliament announced

On Tuesday evening, the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia (CEC) drew up a report on the parliamentary candidates elected by the proportional system, Tert.am reported.

According to Article 68 of Armenia's Constitution, the newly formed Armenian parliament is to hold its first sitting on May 31, the third Thursday after the parliamentary elections.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II are expected to participate in the sitting and deliver speeches.

The Armenian parliament's first sitting agenda is: the election of the counting board; election of parliament speaker and vice-speakers; approval of the standing committees' names and areas of activities; election of the standing committees' chairmen; approval of the government program.

According to the Armenian NA Regulations, the oldest MP is to chair the first sitting before parliament speaker is elected. Mkrtich Minasyan, an MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), is to chair the first sitting.

The May 6 parliamentary elections brought the following political forces into Armenia's parliament: the RPA, Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D), Rule of Law party, Heritage part, as well as the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC). Therefore, Armenia's parliament of the 5th convocation will have six parliamentary groups.

The first session of Armenia's new parliament is to last the second Thursday of next month. The second session is to last from the second Tuesday of September to the second Thursday of December.

On May 30, the members of Armenia's newly elected parliament are to receive their cards.
