Civilian activists who were demanding to be allowed to participate at the meeting of Yerevan's Elders Council gathered at the Yerevan municipal building early Tuesday, Armenia Today reported.
The activists will push for the resignation of the head of the Transportation Department of Yerevan, Henrik Navasardyan and director of the Yerevantrans Misak Ambartsumyan.
In the morning, the entrance to the municipality was surrounded by police.
Deputy Chief of Staff of Yerevan municipality Arthur Karapetyan met with activists.
He informed the activists that, they can take part in the meeting if they have an invitation from the city mayor or any faction of the Council. Pointing out the limited seating in the meeting room, he stressed that without an invitation no one can take part in a meeting of the Council of Elders.
Despite this, the activists did not cease their attempts to enter the building. So far, about a dozen of activists were brought in by police.
Activists said that the actions of the police were unlawful as many activists were brought in just for the fact that they were sitting on the stairs at the entrance to the municipality. The police used force trying to "liberate" the stairs from the activists. Activists were chanting: "We do not have a mayor".
