The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved through a compromise, upon the principles offered by the OSCE co-chairmen, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at a trilateral meeting of the Azerbaijani, Armenian and Russian presidents in Sochi on Aug. 10, RIA Novosti reported.

President Sargsyan stressed the issue of implementing the UN resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"If we blame each other again, I think this conflict will not be resolved for a long time," President Sargsyan said.

He also expressed gratitude to President Putin for his intention to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

He stressed this conflict settlement proceeds from the national interests of Armenia.

A trilateral meeting on the Nagorno-Karabakh with participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was held in President Putin's Sochi residence Bocharov Stream on August 10.

The bilateral meetings have been recently held among Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
