Azerbaijan, Baku, June 5 /Trend A.Badalova/
The economic, political and social progress of Azerbaijan is very impressive, Richard Kiessler, senior editor, and Special Foreign Policy Correspondent in WAZ Media Group told in interview to Trend.
"The tremendous change has taken place over the last 20 years. Your economic political and social progress is very impressive for us," Kiessler said.
WAZ Media Group is the third largest publishing house in Germany. The delegation of the group is with a one week visit to Baku.
According to Kiessler, the purpose of their visit is to learn more about Azerbaijan.
"We should do a little bit more in Germany to tell the people what is going on here," he said.
Kiessler stressed that the picture which some of his colleagues wrote in German media is totally wrong. The most of those who wrote about Azerbaijan, according to Kiessler, have never been here and they know nothing about the country.
"I have another picture of Azerbaijan. I traveled through the country and I have seen there is already a lot of progress in the countryside. You see the restoration of houses, a lot of new houses," he said.
He noted that, according to the people that he was talking with the standards of living in the country have become better in the countryside compared to 10 years ago.
This is, according to Kiessler, very important for the transition of the country's society.
According to Hanns-Eberhard Schleyer, a senior counsel in WilmerHale firm's Regulatory and Government Affairs Department, a member of the German Legal Strategy and Public Policy Group, Baku is a beautiful city and.
"For us as foreign visitors it was impressive what we have seen," he said.
He stressed that Azerbaijan is a country that is situated between East and West with a multicultural society, with Muslims, Christians, and Jewish people living together.
"I would really wish many more Germans to come here and to see what is going on here in Azerbaijan," Schleyer.
