Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov will make a tour to Latin American countries and France from July 23-31, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said today.

The tour includes the official visits to Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay and Peru.

"The minister plans to meet with officials of these countries within the tour," he added. "Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the cooperation with Latin American countries."

He added that the minister will meet with his counterpart in France. The prospects of developing the bilateral cooperation in political and economic spheres will be discussed at the meeting.

"Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be separately discussed at a meeting in France," Abdullayev said.

Azerbaijan's relations with Latin America significantly expanded by opening the Azerbaijani embassy in Mexico and Argentina.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
