Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 3 / Trend H.Veliyev /

Launch of the Europe Persia Express Gateway (EPEG) fiber-optic cable line has been postponed, a source close to the project told Trend on Friday.

The reason for postponing the start is due to unavailability of cable line's sea segment, which should be laid between Iran and Oman. Work on laying the sea segment is expected to be completed within the next two months.

Earlier launch of EPEG cable line was transferred from May to July 10.

EPEG originates in Oman and will be routed to Frankfurt. It is supposed to pass through the territory of three countries (Azerbaijan, Poland and Ukraine).

Construction of the main route of the Azerbaijani segment of the EPEG cable line has been completed, and the network is under testing. In parallel, currently work is underway to build additional backup route.

As part of construction work of the main route of the Azerbaijani segment, the network infrastructure and the infrastructure of international connections were installed and connection for transit containers provided.

The bandwidth will reach about 3.2 Tbps, and its length will extend to 6000 kilometres. The preliminary project cost is more than $200 million.
