Georgian ambassador to Azerbaijan recalled

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili allowed an appeal of the Georgian Foreign Ministry to recall ambassadors from 15 countries and two international organisations. As President Mikheil Saakashvili’s administration’s representatives told journalists, the question is about the diplomats mentioned in the Foreign Ministry’s letter which was earlier sent to the head of state.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili allowed an appeal of the Georgian Foreign Ministry to recall ambassadors from 15 countries and two international organisations. As President Mikheil Saakashvili's administration's representatives told journalists, the question is about the diplomats mentioned in the Foreign Ministry's letter which was earlier sent to the head of state.

In particular, the following ambassadors were recalled: Temur Yakobashvili - Ambassador of Georgia to the United States, permanent representative to UN Kakha Lomaia, Salome Samadashvili - Permanent Representative of Georgia to the European Union and Ambassador to Belgium, Mamuka Zhgenti - Permanent Representative of Georgia to the Council of Europe, ambassadors to the UK, Germany, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkey and China.

Five more ambassadors were recalled in connection with expiry of their term of office. They are the ambassadors to Ukraine, Latvia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria, who is also permanent representative to OSCE.

Georgia has diplomatic missions in about 60 countries and according to the country's law, the president recalls and appoints ambassadors in coordination with the foreign minister.
