A methanol plant in Azerbaijan has begun to operate, chairman of AzMeCo Nizami Piriyev said on Thursday during the Caspian Oil and Gas 2013 conference.
According to him, the plant's capacity is 720,000 tons and the first output is expected to be received within two months.
"The plant started to operate the previous day," Piriyev said.
According to him, there is an insignificant demand for methanol in Azerbaijan. An agreement allowing the export of methanol through the Black Sea port of Georgia was reached with BP.
Looking ahead, the demand for the methanol in Azerbaijan will increase significantly with the development of the petrochemical industry.
