The project for the "Development of National Broadband Internet in Azerbaijan" is being worked out by the Azerbaijani government, a report from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan said on Monday.
"Booz & Co", the leading consultant in the telecommunications sector, has already completed an evaluation of the project.
"The Ministry has appealed to the Presidential Administration of the country to make corresponding decisions on commencing the project," the report said.
The start the project is scheduled for 2013.
The project consists of the organization of high quality broadband Internet services via fiber-optic cable networks and the modernization of telecommunication network of all populated areas of the country by 2015.
Currently, internet users amount to 70 people per 100 of the country's population; some 50 out of this amount are broadband internet users.
