The owners of unregistered Wi-Fi access points, providing commercial services of wireless Internet access can be fined in Azerbaijan.

The owners of unregistered Wi-Fi access points, providing commercial services of wireless Internet access can be fined in Azerbaijan.

The problem is the wireless networking equipment which is used without registration, a source in the Azerbaijani telecommunications market said.

Import and operation of radio-electronic equipment, designated for civil use and functioning at different frequency resources (from 0.3 watts at a frequency of one gigahertz, as well as more than 0.03 watts at frequencies above one gigahertz ) , should be coordinated with the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan, according to the source.
Furthermore, the said equipment should be registered at the State Management of Radio frequencies of the communication ministry.

Criteria for the use of equipment specified, in accordance with the decree No.54 of the Cabinet of Ministers dated on April 19, 2004.

Owners of illegally operating wireless access networks will be sent an order on the termination of usage of radio electronic equipment before the elimination of the violation, according to the existing legislation of Azerbaijan.

The State Management of Radiofrequencies of the Ministry of Communication implement control over the registration and commissioning of radio-electronic equipment in the country.

The commission cost of electronic equipment intended for civil use (radio, etc.), as well as frequency resources in Azerbaijan is regulated in accordance with their power characteristics.
