Around $17 million invested in Azerbaijan's ICT sector in Q1 of 2014

The volume of investments made by the enterprises and structural units of the Ministry of Communications and high Technologies in the ICT sector in Azerbaijan amounted to 13 million manat in January-March 2014.

The volume of investments made by the enterprises and structural units of the Ministry of Communications and high Technologies in the ICT sector in Azerbaijan amounted to 13 million manat in January-March 2014.

In total, some 29.5 million manat (9 percent of total investment in the country's economy) was invested into Azerbaijan's ICT sector during the mentioned period, according to the ministry's report on the first quarter of 2014.

Six new automatic telephone systems (ATS) have been commissioned and 16 ATS have been reconstructed in the country at the expenses of capital investment of the communication enterprises.

Today the numbering capacity of ATS network throughout the country exceeds 1.8 million, and the number of basic telephone sets is more than 1.47 million units.

The total number of phones in Azerbaijan accounted for every 100 people, makes up 18.65 units on average. According to the ministry's data, 37.7 units account for the capital, 11.61 units for other regions of the country, and 7.21 units for rural areas.

Some 69.01 units of telephones account for every 100 families in the country. This figure is 136.76 units in Baku, 48.1 units for other regions of the republic, and 32.8 units in rural areas.

The mobile penetration in the country remained at the same level - 110 percent.

CDMA wireless communication network of the industrial associations Aztelekom and "Baku Telephone Communications" covers about 80 percent of the population.

The total number of subscribers exceeds 30,800 people (Aztelekom network - 21.032, "Baku Telephone Communication" - 9,825).

The official exchange rate for April 18 is 0.7843 AZN/USD.
