Three people have died of A/H1N1 and the number of infected now exceeds 1,000 in Georgia's breakaway republic of Abkhazia, RUstavi2 TV reported on Friday.
Abkhazian health authorities said the situation was alarming and local health care facilities had been strained in dealing with rising infection numbers. Five suspected cases were now in a grave state, they said, Xinhua reported.
Officials urged local residents to seek medical treatment in Zugdidi, a Georgian province bordering Abkhazia.
