President: Georgian gov't and opposition should create European-type constitution

"We must create a democratic constitution of the European type with great equality between the government branches, a strong parliament, and permanent accountability to the people for constructive cooperation conditions between the government and the opposition," Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said during a meeting with Venice Commission head Gianni Buquicchio.

The Presidential Press Service reported that the sides discussed alterations to the Georgian Constitution and also bilateral relations. 

Saakashvili said Georgia hopes to receive advice from the Venice Commission.

"As regards to the 2005 Constitution, you mentioned that it should be reconsidered, and I think that it is time to do so," Buquicchio said.

Saakashvili noted at the meeting that during the last five years, the government has implemented many reforms.
