Nino Burjanadze says she isn’t allowed to meet with refugees in Khurvaleti

Georgia, Tbilisi, August 13 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

Leader of Democratic Movement-United Georgia Nino Burjanadze said that the authorities haven't allowed her to meet with the refugees in the Khurvaleti village in the Gori region (the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone).

Local authorities with the help of the police blocked the road to Khurvaleti, Burjanadze said today at a press conference.

According to her, refugees wanted to meet with her, though some of them are afraid of reprisal and don't speak aloud about it.

"I don't believe that a refugee, who is hungry, will scream "Misha-Misha! ". Only intimidated people can do it. The people, who came there were not refugees. The Government arranged a provocation, but we didn't yield to it. Even a stone was flung at one of our activists - Luka Kurtanidze, but, fortunately, he isn't seriously injured," Burjanadze said.
