The 11th meeting of the subcommittee of the EU-Georgia trade, economic and related legal issues at the expert level (directors) has been held in Brussels.
The meeting was chaired by Director of European Integration Department of the Foreign Ministry Tea Akhvlediani from the Georgian side and from the European side - deputy head of the European (not EU) and Central Asian Directorate of the General Directorate of the European Commission on Trade Philip Kuison.
The representatives of relevant departments of Georgia, the European Commission, the EU European External Action Service attended the meeting.
According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed the activities undertaken during the last year in terms of intensifying the cooperation between Georgia and the EU in trade and economics, including macro-economic situation in Georgia and the EU, cooperation in the promotion of investments, tax, customs areas and so on.
Special attention was paid to the topics related to the free trade zone between Georgia and the EU. In this regard, the two sides welcomed the beginning of the negotiations in this direction.
The EU appreciated Georgia's preliminary work at the preparatory stage and stressed the importance of continuing the reforms in this area. This contributes to Georgia's economic integration with the EU in terms of penetration in the EU internal market.
The parties also discussed the further measures and EU possible support through implementing aid programs. This subcommittee is one of the formats of cooperation between Georgia and the EU at the expert level.
