Georgia is a reliable partner of NATO, and the Alliance's Chicago Summit was evidence of it, NATO Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai said at the Tbilisi International Airport after he arrived in Georgia last night.
As Georgian Parliament said, Appathurai will take part in NATO Days that take place annually in the country.
He will be one of the keynote speakers at the conference, which will take place on June 11-16. This year NATO Days in Georgia are held for the fifth time.
"Georgia is an important participant in the international security system and actively involved in the NATO operation in Afghanistan. The Alliance appreciates this and believes that Georgia makes a major contribution to the fight against international terrorism," Appathurai said.
He stressed that the Chicago Summit reaffirmed the decision of the Bucharest summit, and Georgia will join the Alliance as soon as it corresponds its standards.
During the visit, Appathurai will meet with Georgian Parliament's Chairman David Bakradze and will deliver a lecture established in Free University established by former Georgian Economy Minister Kakha Bendukidze.
