NATO Deputy Secretary General hopes that the Russian side will in time provide information about the Caucasus 2012 military exercises scheduled for this autumn.
The major thing is that these exercises will not lead to an escalation of tensions between Russia and Georgia, Alexander Vershbow said on Tbilisi.
"Both Russia and NATO hold exercices. The main thing is that they are held in open, in a transparent manner, and we hope that the Russian side will notify us of its intentions," he said.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has repeatedly expressed concerns about the Russian Caucasus 2012 exercise, which will take place on the border with Georgia. He believes that the transfer of exercise from summer to autumn, and their coincidence with the elections in Georgia, talks about the possible aggressive actions by northern neighbor.
