The NATO secretary general will visit Georgia in September, Vice Prime Minister Giorgi Baramidze said after a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow in Tbilisi on Thursday.

The NATO secretary general will visit Georgia in September, Vice Prime Minister Giorgi Baramidze said after a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow in Tbilisi on Thursday.

Baramidze noted that the two sides reviewed all aspects of relations between Georgia and NATO. "Chicago summit was a clear confirmation that Georgia is on the path of integration into Euro-Atlantic alliance," Deputy Prime Minister said.

Deputy Secretary General of NATO Vershbow, in turn, noted that at the meeting the sides discussed the important progress made by Georgia in the recent period. However, reforms in the defense sector should be continued according to him.

Vershbow also emphasized the importance of developing democratic institutions in Georgia and noted its contribution to the peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan.
