The Georgian Interior Ministry confirms that two of the 11 militants killed in a special operation in the Lopota gorge were citizens of Georgia.
"Given the high public interest, we want to provide new information about persons liquidated in a special operation. As a result of examination, inspection and investigation the identification of seven of the 11 liquidated individuals was made possible.
Two of the seven identified are citizens of Georgia Aslan Margoshvili and Bahaudin Kavtarashvili.
Five are Russian citizens from the North Caucasus.
The special operation in the Lopota gorge to neutralize a group of saboteurs began on August 28. Some 11 militants, according to the Interior Ministry, had been killed, but presumably several wounded members of the armed group are still hiding in the forests.
