Georgia, Tbilisi, Oct. 30 / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia /
Georgian Minister on Penalty Execution, Probation and Juridical Support Sozar Subari said at a briefing on Tuesday that he will examine the issue of Russian citizens detained in the country.
"I am not ready to answer the questions. But I'll examine the issue, as it's not the first time I've been asked about it.," the minister said.
He stated that he intends to check the legality and conditions of this issue.
Russian citizens are often imprisoned in Georgia for violating the law on occupation, which prohibits visiting Abkhazia and South Ossetia without the consent of the official Tbilisi. However, the majority of Russian citizens are released after paying a fine.
On October 25, during a meeting with his Swiss counterpart Didier Burkhalter, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia hopes that all Russian citizens, unjustly imprisoned in Georgia, will be released.
