The KazTransGas - Tbilisi Company has only paid 30 million of a debt worth 80 million lari ($1=1.66 lari) to the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation.

Deputy Finance Minister David Ebralidze said that after the Georgian temporary manager joined KazTransGas - Tbilisi in 2009, the debt worth 30 million lari was paid, but 80 million lari remained.

"The fact is that interest is being paid, but the debt remains the same," Ebralidze said. "However, the KazTransGas management asked for the return of the Kazakh management to the company at a meeting with Economy Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili."

He added that the sensitive issues relating to the gas distribution company, the Batumi oil terminal and development of Batumi Sea Port were discussed.

"Of course, there were mistakes and problems of our government and the company's management," Ebanoidze said. "I think the negotiations must be conducted with the Finance Ministry and Energy Ministry in the first place. I hope these problems will be resolved in the near future and that the Kazakh management will return to KazTransGas."

A Kazakh governmental delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Erbol Orinbaev arrived in Tbilisi on November 17. He met with Georgian Minister of Finance Nodar Khaduri and Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze.

Issues of cooperation in the field of energy, transport and transit of goods were discussed.
Several Kazakh oil and gas companies, such as Rompetrol (wholly owned by the government of Kazakhstan), Kaztransaz - Tbilisi, KazMunaiGas - service and KazTransOil are all working in Georgia.
