During his visit to Vilnius, Georgian State Minister for Integration into European and Euro-Atlantic bodies Aleksi Petriashvili, held meetings with Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis and Defence Minister Rasa Jukneviciene.

The state minister also met with the new Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius, Speaker Vydas Gedvilas, a candidate for the post of Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and a candidate for the foreign minister post Linas Linkevicius.

At the meetings, Petriashvili spoke about the importance of the Georgian parliamentary elections and peaceful transfer of power. Also on the agenda was the foreign and security policy of Georgia and the minister emphasised that the country's policy in this direction as well as its aspiration to the European and Euro-Atlantic bodies remains unchanged.

The state minister thanked the Lithuanian side for their continued support for the territorial integrity of Georgia and the policy of non-recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. He also expressed his gratitude for the strong support on the path of European integration.

Lithuania's support for Georgia is particularly important, as the country will become the president of the EU in the second half of 2013. This is exactly the time when Georgia wants to complete an association agreement with the EU, negotiations on free trade and to achieve significant progress in the liberalisation of the visa regime.

It should be noted that in 2013 Lithuania will host the summit of Eastern Partnership and Georgia wants most ambitious prospects of its integration into the EU to be recorded.

The parties discussed the possibilities of deepening bilateral relations, trade, economic and energy cooperation.

Petriashvili also mentioned normalisation of Georgian-Russian relations and noted the importance of the international community's active involvement in the process
