Georgia will receive an action plan on visa liberalization from the European Union (EU) in January next year, Georgian State Minister for European Integration Alexi Petriashvili stated during briefing summing up 2012.

Petriashvili said the visit of the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmström in Georgia has twice been postponed.
"The European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmström will visit Georgia in January and present an action plan on visa liberalization. Her visit was twice postponed, but this was due to procedural issues", the State Minister said.

Petriashvili said that the EU had to agree on the issue. "They needed a unified position. Currently, it has been agreed on and we are to receive a visa liberation action plan in January," Petriashvili added.

The "Eastern Partnership" is aimed at rapprochement between the EU and Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine. The founding summit of the "Eastern Partnership" took place on May 7, 2009 in Prague.
