All political prisoners recognized by the Georgian parliament have left the prisons today from 10.00 to 11.00.

The Amnesty Law came into force on January 13. After the Georgian President refused to sign the amnesty bill, it was signed by Chairman of the Parliament David Usupashvili.

Some 190 people were released.
The individuals detained during protest actions on Nov. 7, 2007, May 26, 2011, and Georgian citizens and one Russian citizen convicted of espionage were mainly among them.

Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Sozar Subari, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights Eka Beselia, Ombudsman Ucha Nanuashvili, NGO representatives, close relatives and colleagues met released political prisoners.

Beselia said that a new era starts in Georgia, when the country will have no political prisoners.
"The new government is the guarantor," she said.

Footballer Giorgi Demetradze, who was also recognized the victim of political persecution, was also among released individuals.

According to the amnesty bill, some 3,500 more convicts, who have fallen under the amnesty, will be released for two months. Their cases have been submitted to the courts, which will make decisions individually.
