Georgian Corrections Ministry to send cases of 18,500 amnestied people to court

The Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia will send 18,500 cases of amnestied prisoners to court, deputy chairman of the Corrections Department, Avtandil Mikanadze made this statement.

"The process of sending the cases to court has started. In total the cases of 18,500 prisoners have been sent so far. This process will be conducted by agreement with the courts. We have two weeks to ensure that all cases are sent to the courts," Mikanadze said.

On Sunday, 190 people recognised as political prisoners by the Georgian Parliament left prison. There were those accused of spying for Russia among them. Another 3500 will leave prison within the two months set for consideration of pardoned prisoner cases by courts.
