Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili congratulated Georgian Muslims on the occasion of Novruz holiday.
"My dear compatriots, I congratulate you on the national holiday of Novruz," the president said in facebook. "This is a family holiday. Georgia is celebrating this beautiful spring holiday with hope for the future and joy. Novruz holiday became a national holiday in Georgia in 2010. Thus, the country joined the international community. I wish you and your families peace, prosperity and success."
Large groups of Muslims live in the Kvemo Kartli region (500,000 Azerbaijanis) and Adjara (approximately 30,000).
