The Georgian government has appealed to President Saakashvili to declare May 16 a day of mourning.

"The government has appealed to President Saakashvili to declare May 16 a day of mourning in memory of Georgian servicemen," the government said. "The bodies of Georgian soldiers killed in Afghanistan - Junior Sergeant Zviad Davitadze, Corporals Alexander Kvitsinadze and Vladimir Shanava will be delivered to Georgia on May 16."

Sergeant Zviad Davitadze, Corporals Alexander Kvitsinadze and Vladimir Shanava were killed in Afghanistan on May 13 as a result of a Taliban attack. They will be awarded with the Vakhtang Gorgasali Order, the Georgian Defense Ministry said today.
