The United States condemns the May 17th attack on a peaceful march to mark the international day against homophobia in Tbilisi, Georgia, Acting Deputy Spokesperson of the U.S. State Department, Patrick Ventrell said at a daily press briefing.
"Such acts of intolerance have no place in democratic societies," he said.
According to Ventrell, the United States places great importance on the protection of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all people, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender persons around the world.
On May 17, a crowd of thousands of people consisting of clerics and parishioners dispersed the police and the action of dozens of LGBT advocates on Rustaveli Avenue, timed to coincide with the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia.
28 people were injured as a result of the unrest in Tbilisi and taken to Ingorokva hospital.
