Georgia’s Justice Minister refused to dismiss Prosecutor General

Georgia’s Minister of Justice Tea Tsulukiani refused to dismiss the Prosecutor General Archil Kbilashvili, what was requested by the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in his letter on the eve. In a response letter to the President of Georgia on Tuesday Tsulukiani stressed that for her "the existence of an independent, competent and strong prosecutor corps is a national priority."

Georgia's Minister of Justice Tea Tsulukiani refused to dismiss the Prosecutor General Archil Kbilashvili, which was requested by the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in his letter on the eve. In a response letter to the President of Georgia on Tuesday Tsulukiani stressed that for her "the existence of an independent, competent and strong prosecutors' corps is a national priority."

"I do not consider using of powers conferred on me by Article 9 of the Law "On Prosecutor's Office" and giving a petition for dismissing the Prosecutor General appropriate, the response letter to the Minister of Justice said.

The President of Georgia demanded dismissing of Kbilashvili from the Prosecutor General's post, after that he, violating international conventions, exempted from criminal responsibility the author of scandalous prison video Valdimir Bedukadze, who was involved in the torture of people.

Tsulukiani in her letter stressed that "it is necessary to show respect to the prosecutor and the judge, in spite of the fact whether she or the President of Georgia likes the decision taken by the prosecutor, or not.

"The judge, the prosecutor and defense attorney - these are the three professions that you and I have to respect, if we really want an independent justice," the letter of the Justice Minister to the President of Georgia said.
