Georgian Defence Minister to visit U.S. base in Germany

A delegation from the Georgian Defence Ministry led by Minister Irakli Alasania left for Germany on an official visit.

The delegation also included the Deputy Defence Minister Mikhail Darchiashvili and Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Colonel Vladimir Chachibaya, the Georgian Defence Ministry told Trend on Tuesday.

During the visit, the party will visit the U.S. Hohenfels base in Germany. Georgian soldiers are being trained at the base in order to participate in the mission in Afghanistan. Alasania took a deep interest in the progress of the Georgian servicemen's training by U.S. instructors.

Upon the completion of training at the U.S. base, servicemen of the 31st Battalion of the Third Infantry Brigade will depart for the Afghan province of Helmand.

Georgian Defence Minister will also meet with the commander of U.S. Army in Europe, Lieutenant General Donald Campbell.

At the conclusion of the visit, Alasania will visit Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre and a hospital in Heidelberg, where Georgian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan, are going through rehab.
