The Georgian Foreign Ministry is working on a safe route for the repatriation of its citizens from Syria. The Foreign Ministry is working on a plan together with the partner countries, deputy director of the Consulate Department of the Foreign Ministry Inga Kikvadze told journalists on Friday.
Earlier a Georgian Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed there is no Georgian citizen in Syria, as everybody was removed. However yesterday it tuned out that 22 Georgian citizens were still in Damascus and asked the country's government to assist with their safe removal from Syria.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed that 22 Georgian citizens are still in Syria and they should express need to leave as the Ministry can do nothing against their will, Kikvadze noted that the Georgian Embassy in Egypt has been in constant contact with these nationals in Syria since 2011.
"The present situation is not easy, therefore the implementation of appropriate measures is fraught with difficulties," she noted. At the same time Kikvadze stressed that the Foreign Ministry is doing everything possible to assist the Georgian citizens.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry considers the route through Beirut as the safest one for transporting these people.
