The ceremonial opening of the 'Didgori 2013' command and stuff exercises took place at the Krtsanisi National Training Centre in Georgia on Monday.
Whilst speaking at the opening ceremony, First Deputy Head of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Vakhtang Kapanadze noted that such exercises haven't been conducted in Georgia yet.
"These exercises are very significant, as interagency command exercises are being conducted ranging from crisis response to the management of military activities. It is good that various agencies are involved in these exercises. I hope they will be interesting. The experience gained will be useful in creating a crisis management system and developing an Armed Forces management system,"Kapanadze said.
Didgori 2013 command and staff exercises and are aimed at improving interaction of various agencies in crisis situations and during war. Georgia's Armed Forces, representatives of various ministries and National Security Council, members of the parliamentary committee on Defence and Security and international organisations are also involved.
A representative of the U.S. European Command participated at the opening ceremony.
According to the scenario, governmental structures will have to act under conditions of natural disasters and military activity.
The exercises will last until September 9 and take place in Krtsanisi and Senaki.
